Major League Lacrosse today held its 2013 Supplemental Draft, giving teams the opportunity to build out their 23-man protected rosters to a 40-man preseason roster. The draft consisted of 12 rounds and the Charlotte Hounds had nine picks, including the third overall. With that pick, the Hounds selected attackman Tim Desko, a 2012 graduate of Syracuse Univ. In 56 games with the Orange, Desko tallied 63 goals and 22 assists for 85 points. In addition, he captured 53 ground balls and caused six turnovers. Desko was a team co-captain in 2012, and was a 2011 Second Team All-Big East selection. Below is a complete roundup of the Hounds’ draftees.
Tim Fallon, M/FO (Second Round, 11th overall) – Fallon was selected by the Rochester Rattlers in the fourth round (27th overall) of the 2012 MLL Supplemental Draft. He played in eight games for the team that season, going 89-196 on faceoffs for a .500 win percentage. Fallon also tallied one goal and two assists. At the Univ. of Hartford, Fallon was a three-time All-America East player, earning first team honors in 2010 and 2011. He finished his career with a .573 faceoff win percentage.
Nick O’Hara, D (Fourth Round, 27th overall) – O’Hara is a five-year MLL veteran. He has 22 games of experience between the Rochester Rattlers, former Toronto Nationals, Chesapeake Bayhawks, Long Island Lizards and most recently the Hamilton Nationals. In those games he has recorded three goals, five assists and 59 ground balls. A product of Duke Univ., O’Hara appeared in 80 games for the Blue Devils, registering 14 goals, 10 assists and 304 ground balls. He was a two-time USILA First Team All-American and All-ACC selection. In 2008, O’Hara was named the William F. Schmeisser National Defenseman of the Year.
Carter Bender, A (Seventh Round, 51st overall) – Bender was selected by the Rochester Rattlers in the sixth round (43rd overall) of the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft, and appeared in one game for the team last season. While at the Univ. of Hartford, Bender appeared in 59 games, recording 104 goals and 64 assists for a total of 168 points. In addition, he grabbed 56 ground balls and caused seven turnovers. Bender was a two-time All-America East selection.
Matt Madalon, G (Eight Round, 59th overall) – Madalon is a six-year MLL veteran, originally drafted by the former San Francisco Dragons in the 2007 MLL Supplemental Draft. He spent the past four seasons with the Long Island Lizards. While at Roanoke College, Madalon was a two-time Second Team USILA selection as well as two-time First Team All-Conference player. In 2005 he was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Kyle Moeller, D (Ninth Round, 67th overall) – Moeller was selected by the Long Island Lizards in the fifth round (36th overall) of the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft, but he did not suit up for the team last year. Moeller, a graduate of Stony Brook Univ., collected 85 ground balls and caused 52 turnovers in two seasons with the Seawolves. His first two years of collegiate eligibility were spent at Manhattan College. Moeller was a Second Team All-MAAC selection and a two-time First Team All-America East selection.
Shayne Jackson, A (10th Round, 75th overall) – Jackson was selected by the Denver Outlaws in the eighth round (62nd overall) of the 2012 Collegiate Draft, but he did not suit up for the team last year. Jackson over two seasons at Limestone College recorded 59 goals and 94 assists for a total of 153 points. In addition, he grabbed 55 ground balls and caused seven turnovers. Jackson’s first two years of collegiate eligibility were spent at Onondaga Community College. He is a two-time First Team USILA selection and was a 2011 Conference Carolinas co-Player of the Year.
Matt Lalli, M (11th Round, 83rd overall) – Lalli has three years of MLL experience. Last season he played in three games for the Ohio Machine, tallying three goals and an assist for four points. In 2009, Lalli played two games for the Cannons, scoring one goal. Lalli’s first MLL season was with the former San Francisco Dragons in 2008. He played eight games that year, tallying 10 goals and five assists for 15 points. While at Colgate Univ., Lalli appeared in 62 games, recording 89 goals and 95 assists for 184 points.
Sean Aaron, G (12th Round, 91st overall) – Aaron is a 2012 graduate of Union College. He finished his career as a three-time USILA All-American and two-time Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year. Aaron in his senior season posted a .650 save percentage and 6.49 goals against average.
TRADE: After the completion of the draft, the Hounds acquired midfielder
Chris Schiller from the Chesapeake Bayhawks in exchange for a 2014 Seventh Round Collegiate Pick. Schiller played in the MLL for the Rochester Rattlers from 2004-08. In 58 games, he recorded 21 goals and 18 assists for 39 points and added 192 ground balls. Schiller was a 1999 graduate of Penn State Univ. He was selected with the 56th pick today.
