Hounds select Fields, nine players in MLL Collegiate Draft

April 19, 2018
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Hounds enjoyed an advantageous night at the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft, the first major event of the 2018 MLL season. Charlotte added nine players overall, including Albany attackman Connor Fields.

The Hounds' nine picks in 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft marked the most of any MLL franchise and it didn't take long for the team to make its first selection. With the third pick in the draft, the Hounds selected Fields from the University at Albany. The 2017 Tewaaraton Award finalist, who was projected to go No. 1 in a few preliminary mock drafts, will make an immediate impact in Charlotte upon joining the team following his college season.

Fields boasts one of the best offensive skillsets in the nation. In nine games this season, Fields has 58 points and ranks second in the nation in points per game at 6.44. Last season with the Great Danes, he recorded the fourth-highest scoring season in Division I history with 117 points off 55 goals and 62 assists.

Fields will join former Albany teammate Adam Osika and the Hounds' third overall pick from the 2017 MLL Collegiate Draft, Matt Rambo, who beat out Fields for the 2017 Tewaaraton Award.

The Hounds then bolstered the midfield and defense in the second round with two selections. Charlotte drafted midfielder Tim Rotanz from the University of Maryland with the 12th overall pick and defenseman Ban Randall from Ohio State with the 14th overall pick. Rotanz will join six other Maryland graduates on the Hounds roster while Randall represents the only Buckeye.

The Hounds then went on to pick up attackman Morgan Cheek from Harvard, defenseman Scott Hooper from Virginia, face off specialist Noah Rak from Massachusetts, midfielder Jason Alessi from Yale, midfielder Adam DiMillo from Maryland and defenseman James Barclay from Providence.

The Hounds open the 2018 season on Saturday, April 21, at Memorial Stadium against the Boston Cannons at 7:30 p.m.
