FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What are you looking for in a Dance Team Member?
The Charlotte Hounds Dance Team is looking for talented, poised and dynamic women to take center stage and interact with fans at all home games and major events.
Is experience necessary?
No experience is necessary. We will teach you everything you need to know on the day of auditions. Dancers will be judged on natural dance ability. In other words, if you have the ability to dance, can learn dance steps, but have had no formal training; you still have a real shot at making the squad. Dancers will not be chosen based on experience, but rather on how they "shine" on audition day.
What kind of photograph should I submit?
Although a professional photo is not required, it is recommended. Photos are used for identification purposes so please make sure your hair color and length are the same as the photo. The photo should be one that you feel makes you look your best. Headshots, half body or full body shots are acceptable. You may only submit one photo.Photos WILL NOT be returned under any circumstance. Please bring the photo with you the day of the audition.
How should I wear my hair and make-up for the audition?
Hair does not need to be a certain length, color or style. At games and appearances, the Dance Team members wear their hair either completely down or half up/half down. Please choose a style that looks best on you. Make-up should be worn a little heavier than your everyday make-up. Please wear colors that complement your skin colors and the audition outfit you are wearing.
What attire is required for the audition?
Half top/sports bra any color and briefs/hot shorts any color, sheer tights and dance sneakers or jazz shoes. This outfit should complement you both in color and in style. You may NOT dance barefoot. Wear a warm-up outfit over your audition outfit.
Are there any special requirements to audition?
1. You must be at least 18 years of age by January 29, 2011, and must be a high school graduate.
2. There is no maximum age limit.
3. There are no height or weight requirements.
4. All team members must have flexible schedules for rehearsals, games and promotional appearances throughout the season.
5. We are looking for bright, friendly, attractive women to perform at all Charlotte Hounds home games.
What time commitment is required as a member of the Dance Team?
Being a member of the Dance Team is not a full time job but does require 100% commitment. Most squad members work, attend college or both. The Dance Team practice one or two nights during the week and on weekends. All home games are MANDATORY and the 2012 schedule can be found on the home page of the Charlotte Hounds website.
What can I expect the day of the audition?
Upon arrival, you should proceed to the registration table to check in. You will be required to fill out an application and waiver. You will also be required to submit your photo at this time. Once everyone has checked in, you will go through a short group warm up. We recommend that you start stretching upon arrival. Then a choreographer will teach a short dance combination at the audition. You will be required to learn and perform this dance combination in small groups in front of a panel of judges. Throughout the day you will be judged on your dance/cheer ability, showmanship and crowd appeal. We are holding two auditions at the end of each audition finalist will be announced (you only need to attend one tryout session). If you are selected as a finalist, you will then receive instructions as to what will be required of you.
