Six Hounds Draftees On The Tewaaraton Watch List


The NCAA men’s lacrosse season is in full swing, and the Hounds are keeping close track of how their 2014 MLL Collegiate Draftees are performing in their senior seasons. Six of the 11 players the Hounds drafted in January have made it on to the Tewaaraton Watch List. Below is a recap of how the players and their teams have fared through the end of March.

Michael Ehrhardt (D) Maryland – drafted 1st round, 7th overall

The defenseman has appeared in all nine games so far this season for the Terps. He has collected 34 groundballs and caused 19 turnovers, while adding one goal and one assist. He currently ranks 9th in NCAA D-I men’s lacrosse with an average of 2.11 caused turnovers per game. Ehrhardt also is on the Tewaaraton Watch List. Maryland has started the season 8-1 and currently is ranked No. 4.

Pat Laconi (M) Loyola – drafted 2nd round, 9th overall

The short-stick defensive midfielder has appeared in all 10 games so far this season for the Greyhounds. He has tallied six goals and one assist while collecting 13 groundballs and causing 17 turnovers. Laconi ranks 19th in NCAA D-I men’s lacrosse with an average of 1.70 caused turnovers per game. Loyola has started the season 9-1 and currently is ranked No. 1.

Mike Chanenchuk (M) Maryland – drafted 2nd round, 11th overall

The midfielder has started all nine games so far this season for the Terps. He has posted 23 goals and seven assists with a 58.2 shot on goal percentage. Chanenchuk ranks 28th in NCAA D-I men’s lacrosse with an average of 2.56 goals per game and 22nd with an average of 3.78 points per game. Additionally, he has caused six turnovers and collected 18 groundballs. Chanenchuk is on the Tewaaraton Watch List. Maryland has started the season 8-1 and currently is ranked No. 4.

Brendan Fowler (FO) Duke – drafted 2nd round, 14th overall

The faceoff specialist has appeared in all 11 games so far this season for the Blue Devils. He has gone 160-251 at the X, and his 63.7 faceoff win percentage ranks 6th in NCAA D-I men’s lacrosse. Fowler also has scored two goals. He in on the Tewaaraton Watch List. Duke has started the season 9-2 and currently is ranked No.3.

Thomas DeNapoli (A/M) Towson – drafted 2nd round, 15th overall

The attackman/midfielder has appeared in all 10 games so far this season for the Tigers. He has scored 15 goals and added 15 assists with a 54.3 shot on goal percentage. DeNapoli is on the Tewaaraton Watch List. Towson has started the season 7-3 but currently is unranked.

Josh Dionne (A) Duke – drafted 3rd round, 18th overall

The attackman has started and appeared in 10 games so far this season for the Blue Devils. He has tallied 26 goals and five assists with a 76.3 shot on goal percentage. In addition, Dionne’s 44.1 shot percentage ranks 25th in NCAA D-I men’s lacrosse. He also ranks 25th with an average of 2.6 goals per game. Duke has started the season 9-2 and currently is ranked No. 3.

Justin Ward (A) Loyola – drafted 3rd round, 23rd overall

The attackman has started all 10 games so far this season for the Greyhounds. He has tallied 11 goals and 33 assists with a 59.5 shot on goal percentage. Ward ranks 3rd in NCAA D-I men’s lacrosse with an average of 3.30 assists per game, and 10th with an average of 4.40 points per game. He is on the Tewaaraton Watch List. Loyola has started the season 9-1 and currently is ranked No. 1.

Henry Lobb (D) Duke – drafted 4th round, 31st overall

The defenseman in late January injured his right leg during practice and has appeared in only six games so far this season for the Blue Devils. He has scooped up 12 groundballs, caused one turnover and tallied one assist. Duke has started the season 9-2 and currently is ranked No. 3.

Zack Losco (M) UPenn – drafted 6th round, 47th overall

The midfielder has appeared in all seven games so far this season for the Quakers. He has tallied eight goals and six assists, while adding 19 groundballs. Losco is on the Tewaaraton Watch List. UPenn has started the season 4-3 and currently is ranked No. 15.

Chris Hipps (D) Duke – drafted 7th round, 55th overall

The defenseman has started all 11 games so far this season for the Blue Devils. He has collected one goal, 22 groundballs and caused five turnovers. Duke has started the season 9-2 and currently is ranked No. 3.

Kevin O’Neil (M) Villanova – drafted 8th round, 63rd overall

The midfielder has started all nine games so far this season for the Wildcats. He has posted 16 goals and six assists with a 69.4 shot on goal percentage. O’Neil has also scooped up 12 groundballs and caused one turnover. Villanova has started the season 4-5 and currently is unranked.
