CHARLOTTE – Hounds midfielder Josh Amidon has been named MLL "Offensive Player of the Week” for Week 3 of the 2012 season, following a six (6) point performance in Saturday’s 18-15 win over the Ohio Machine. Amidon scored three goals, including his first career 2-pointer, and added two assists to help the Charlotte expansion team get their first franchise victory.
After the game, Amidon was quick to credit his teammates for the opportunities. “It’s just everybody working together, all six guys out there, moving and finding each other and the timing…I was lucky on a couple of them that someone looked at me and I took a shot and scored so it all worked out great.”
This is Amidon’s first season playing in MLL and his first time being honored with the weekly award. He was chosen 28th overall by the Hounds in the 2012 Expansion draft. The midfielder is now the first player in franchise history to receive the league honor. Amidon is currently tied for second on the team in points (8) and fourth in goals (4). His performance Saturday also matched midfielder Stephen Berger for a team-record six (6) points in a single game.
The Hounds (1-2) look to keep momentum rolling as they welcome the Long Island Lizards (0-2) to American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday May 19. Faceoff is set for 7:00p.m. EST and tickets can be purchased online at www.charlottehounds.com/tickets or by calling 704-980-2999.
