Inside Lacrosse announced the results of its annual Laxie Awards and Charlotte Hounds attackman Eric Lusby was the big winner, topping four different categories in fan voting, including IL Player Of The Year.
Lusby in 2012 led Loyola to its first-ever national lacrosse title and set an NCAA Championship record by scoring 17 goals in four tournament games. Four of his goals came in the title game against Maryland. As well as earning the Most Outstanding Player honors, Lusby’s NCAA Tournament performance also pushed him past teammate Mike Sawyer for the Greyhounds’ season scoring title. Lusby finished the season with 54 goals and added 17 assists for a total of 71 points.
The Severna Park, Md.-native also was chosen as Division I Men’s Player Of The Year, Clutch Performer Of The Year and Breakthrough Player Of The Year. Relative to Lusby's personal awards, Loyola was recognized as the Team Of The Year, while the Greyhounds' Charley Toomey was voted Coach Of The Year.
The Hounds acquired Lusby through the Major League Lacrosse waiver wire process in June. The attackman was only able to participate in two games, but put up four goals and recorded a 44.4 shot percentage. He earned “Cascade MLL Rookie Of The Week” honors for the final week of the ’12 season.
