The Charlotte Hounds today announced that they have moved Pat Laconi and Justin Ward, both of Loyola University, from the Collegiate Inactive list to the 25-man active roster. With their senior seasons complete following a loss to the University of Albany in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the two players become eligible to compete for the Hounds as soon as this Saturday in Boston. Laconi and Ward join Thomas DeNapoli as the only rookies currently on the active roster.
Laconi was the Hounds’ second draft pick in 2014 (9th overall). The defensive midfielder played in all 17 games for the Greyhounds this season, tallying 11 goals and three assists. He also scooped up 31 groundballs and led the team with 34 caused turnovers. The Hounds selected Ward with their seventh pick in the draft (23rd overall). The attackman finished the year with 18 goals and a team-high 53 assists. He also recorded 35 groundballs and a 63.9 SOG%.
Loyola earned the No. 3 seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament after finished the year 15-1. The team’s only regular-season loss came at the hands of Virginia in the opening game of the season. The Greyhounds were crowned Patriot League Champions after a 13-10 victory over Johns Hopkins. But the Great Danes knocked the Greyhounds out of the tournament last weekend by a score of 13-6.
Three weeks into the MLL season the Hounds sit at 1-2, tied with four other teams, including the Cannons. The teams will faceoff at 6:00pm this Saturday in Harvard Stadium.
