The Charlotte Hounds and the Charlotte Checkers will faceoff in a friendly competition to see which local professional sports team can collect the most school supplies for WSOC’s School Tools campaign.
On Thursday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the two teams will set up at opposite corners of Trade and Tryon streets in Uptown Charlotte to collect supplies. Fans who are unable to attend can stop by the team office (EpiCentre) between now and Aug. 1 to donate and help the cause.
The most needed supplies are pencils, pens, crayons, markers, colored pencils, composition books, 1-subject notebooks, loose-leaf paper, 1-pocket folders, rulers, erasers and glue sticks.
The School Tools campaign was introduced in 1997 and to date has served more than 3 million children covering 22 counties. Supplies are given to students in grade K – 12 needing items to be successful in the upcoming school year. Almost $8 million worth of school supplies have been collected to date.
The School Tools kick-off event will take place at the Wells Fargo atrium on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and WSOC’s main collection day will take place Aug. 15 at WSOC studios. For more information on School Tools or to donate online or via text message, visit
