The Spirit Communications Award Is Back!

March 19, 2016

Week 10: Charlotte native Mike Sawyer received the Spirit Communications Award for his back-to-back goals in the third quarter - including his third 2-pointer of the year - to get the Hounds back in the game and close the gap with the Rattlers to 11-7. The Hounds ended up losing 15-13, but fought until the final whistle. Ari was chosen as the Spirit Communications Fan of the Game for his continued support throughout the season. His family was one of the first to renew their season-tickets for 2015 and got to come down on the field to watch the fireworks with Sawyer and other players.

Week 9: Midfielder John Haus - easily the Hounds' most improved player in 2014 - earned the Spirit Communications Award for his three-goal performance against the Cannons. The Hounds trailed the Cannons 9-6 heading into the final quarter, but Haus scored twice to help the home team come back and win 15-12. Tyler was chosen as the Spirit Communications Fan of the Game for waiting out a pregame rain storm and getting his friends to rally behind the Hounds with the game on the line.

Week 7: Rookie Pat Laconi earned his first Spirit Communications Award on June 14. The midfielder showed off his wheels in transition and scored his first MLL goal en route to the Hounds' second straight win! Sisters Olivia and Isabella were chosen as the Spirit Communications Fans of the Game for getting dressed up in their Hounds gear, chanting for the team and dancing in the stands between plays - a fun night for all!

Week 3: Fourth-year MLL defenseman Brett Schmidt received the Spirit Communications Award for his aggressive play Saturday evening -- laying out for groundballs and holding Bayhawks star Brendan Mundorf to just one goal. Behind Schmidt, the Hounds put together their best defensive effort to date, holding the Bayhawks to just seven goals. Harper was chosen as the Spirit Communications Fan of the Game for waiting out a two-hour rain delay and leading his club team in "Defense" chants that no doubt had an impact on the players.

Week 1: Defenseman  Ryan Flanagan - now an MLL veteran - received the Spirit Communications Award for the leadership he showed not only on the field, but in the locker room and at practices as well.  Mark was chosen as the Spirit Communications Fan of the Game for the support he showed waving his Hounds flag non-stop despite a tough game for the home team.
